@Kas: I also wish you good luck in uni ;) !

@David: lol what a coincidence! Both of my parents did Northwestern graduate (my dad did Kellogg business school, and my mom did law). Youre starting your uni applications (grade 11) next year right? Or the year after?
It'll be next year, Northwestern and the University of Michigan are my top two right now.

I got deferred from MI (school of engineering), and I applied regular decision to Northwestern but I'll probably withdraw my application because there's no point in wasting their time (also I'm double legacy so it would look a bit douchebaggy to reject them if accepted).

You wanna study law right? Or I might have gotten you mixed up with somebody else..
I did for a while, but I'm leaning towards political science or public policy now.

My advice: Think carefully about want you want to do later, if you like technical stuff but not sure what get a alround technical study you can do almost everything whith that later. and here in europe we have a extremly short on teachers, technical people, health people and builders so think carefully about what you want to be later, do choose a study because of the money you can earn later choose a study on your choice of what you like.

I don't have enough of an interest in STEM to pursue something like that. Ultimately I'm pursuing what would be best if I wanted to earn a scholarship somewhere for debate. We're expected to be nationally ranked next year and scholarships won't come easy, so political science is my best hope.

I understand, but I mean in regular choose something you like choose something you want to do later, don't choose a study because of the money, or because your parents say that you have to do it. choose something you like and what you want to do later.

*I also think our school systems are more diffrent then I thought in first.

Nice! Which university (if you dont mind me asking)? I would've probably done engineering as well, except that Chicago doesn't offer pure engineering per se, so I'm probably going to do computer science/minor in econ).

I think what kas meant (correct me if I'm wrong though) is that if you're not 100% committed to what you want to do, doing engineering's the smartest choice because it opens up the door to almost anything (except if you turn your life around and decide to become a painter). So if after 4 years you decide that you're no longer interested in public policy, then engineering will allow you to do pretty much anything (including public policy). And something cool about most US unis (except Michigan) is that you can apply for any major and get in, and then switch right around and do something else. Also regarding money, I thought they were lenient with financial aid? I'm American (but out-of-state) and I still got a couple of thousand bucks even we make much more than the generally accepted amount for financial aid.

Well, we call it diffrent here, its not uni here we have like 3 schools you have to go to
Start school wich is for people between 4 and 12 year (everybody needs to go there)
Highschool wich is for people from 12 to 16, 17, 18 or 19 depends on how smart you are and then you choose a study wich can be MBO, HBO or Uni (Only when you are smart af and you must be 18 atleast)
I do MBO now, 2,5 years to go for me, when I'm done with that I go for another 4 years of HBO and then Bachelor and Master. and then I want to start my own company or actually i'm already working on the plans to start in 2019.

Also no, I didn't mean that you have to choose engineering if you don't know what to do but choose a study in the health care choose one with the most options for later. or if you want to be a house painter or builder but you aren't sure wich of them choose a study between them so you can go every way you want

i'm not sure if I now correctly said in english what I mean but I hope you guys understand it. lol
