TOPIC: Changing game files

Changing game files 28 Nov 2018 01:23 #111061

Hi there! As discussed in this thread the number of violations that you can make before you have to restart is way to low in the student driving exam.

I was wondering if there is a way to change this to, say, 100, so that you can practice the whole route instead of having te start all over again every 10 minutes, which is super annoying and not educational at all....

I found the .xml file for that particular level in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\City Car Driving\data\missions\ccd\mission_4_3.xml, and in this file you can just edit the variables for the level, like the maximum violations before you restart. The point is that the game gives the error "Files are corrupted", and then the game quits. I was wondering, is there any way to bypass/fool/edit the file integrity check? I assume it is verifying the files' hash against a previously generated hash, and when there is a mismatch, it spits out an error.

It would be amazing to find this hash, replace it with a new hash, and be able to actually practice, instead of just redoing the first two turns over and over because, for example, I keep forgetting my blinkers... :-)

Hope anyone can help me with this!
All the best,
Jurriaan

Launch the game and enter the mission, then pause the game, edit and save the XML file, and then push "Start Again" on the pause menu. However you may have to do this every time.

Sounds good, gonna try that! If it works it's easy to make a .bat file that does the editing for me, so it might be a good workaround until the dev's fix the max. violations...

I sent them an email, kindly requesting that they unlock these config files, or make some other way to be able to practice the whole level instead of just the first bit 1000 times. They replied that they will consider unlocking those files. But until then this might be a good workaround. I'll post back with my findings! :-)
