I'm kind of bumping this, but this is personally what I think of this:

Why the complicated process just to change car sounds? Look at the game Rigs of Rods, it only uses a text file, the parameters looks like this:

Engine
{
trigger_source engine
pitch_source engine_rpm
pitch_factors 0 0.95
gain_source injector_ratio
gain_factors 0.32 0.33
sound 800.0 engine.wav
sound 2500.0 enginemed.wav
}

Then you just add more sections to have more sounds, like a horn. It's a much simpler concept, and you don't have to use any software.
