TOPIC: Logitech G27 - Worth it?

Logitech G27 - Worth it? 27 Oct 2013 04:29 #17285

Hi.

So I've had a few real life driving lessons now, and I want to practice in between lessons. I'm thinking about buying CCD, but I doubt I would learn music just using a mouse and keyboard to practice on. So with that being said, I am considering buying the Logitech G27 wheel and pedal set. Does it feel right? Does it feel like the real thing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Yes, the simulation is PERFECT  . But the game doesn't have realistic force feedback yet, so you'd better turn off the force feedback support in the settings menu. Most of us here use the G27, and we're happy with it. If you don't wanna spend much for a G27, you can get a used G27 or G25, or you could buy a Logitech Driving force GT.

Awesome, that's great to hear. The main purpose I want to get this is really to improve on my steering, gear changes getting more comfortable with the biting point on the clutch and just applying the road rules in general. And CCD with the G27 will help me with this?

Yes, even without the force feedback, it still feels like a real car.

In reality driving a car in a city is not hard, if you're having your driving lessons I'm sure by the time you finish them you'll feel confident enough, well, most people do. But I'll say this - if someone is having a hard time understanding how to drive properly in a city, a decent steering wheel and playing games such as CCD can greatly improve their skills.
CCD is a great game, you can learn pretty much all the basic stuff like stopping at the red lights, crossing intersections, signs and so on. It's also good for someone who has no idea how to drive with manual transmission. Although playing such games is actually more difficult than real life, for example checking the mirrors, viewing to the sides. In reality you can do this within a second, while in a game you have to press lots of different keys (this is not an issue if you have TrackIR or hundreds of monitors).
My advice is if you like driving and cars and gaming, a steering wheel such as G27 will be a good investment for the future.

Thanks for the replies, guys! It has helped me out a lot. I've decided to go and order a G27 and buy CCD in the morning.

As I'm still a learner, I'm finding that basics things such as changing gears and steering to be a little tricky at the moment. But I'm sure that with time and now with the ability to practice with a faithful simulator, I will pick it up. :)
