TOPIC: Hardware for "commercial" use.

Hardware for "commercial" use. 27 Oct 2013 17:39 #17338

Greetings to all, my first post.

All vehicle drivers over the age of 80 in Western Australia must, quite correctly in my opinion, pass a driving test every year. I wish to purchase for a Commercial license for "City Car Driving" and using my own high end gaming computer, offer seniors the chance to hone their skills before testing.

My first question is, which hardware (steering wheel and pedals) should I be purchasing.
Question two, is it possible to simulate automatic transmission vehicles, which is of course the type favoured by most private car vehicles in Australia today.

That's enough for now. Looking forward to your replies, Thank you.

Cheers, Mac

There's a commercial license for this game, by the way.
Anyway, there are cars in this game with realistic AT. I think a developer in this forum can tell you more. I can't type much right now, I'm on my phone.

Best Hardware you are looking for:

3 large monitors,

A gear stick (www.thrustmaster.com/products/th8-rs) (unless they are driving auto which this can be set to sequential),

Proper pedals with a very high rotational steering wheel (Like a real car) (www.thrustmaster.com/products/t500rs),

Track IR pro 5 (To track their head position so they don't have to press buttons to look left and right) or you could make an LED cap for some free software called "FreeTrack" which would be much much cheaper,

You will need a Handbrake (E-brake, parking brake) but I cannot find any companies that sell ones that will work for a computer game (I made my own out of knex),

These are the most expensive things on the commercial market. But you might be able to find a company that makes proper car simulator parts.

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The Thrustmaster equipment is available at a local Computer shop so I will investigate today.

Hello,

You can find details about the commercial license here - citycardriving.com/products/commercial

Thanks Eugene, I did find that page yesterday and have sent an email. In the meantime I have obtained a Logitech G27 so I can purchase the home version and get it on my computer for evaluation.

Thanks for you help,

Mac

In Home edition you can only use the ATI EyeFinity or nVidia Surround, and without any guarantee of correct working.
