Personally I'm not a fan of the Oculus Rift. I tried one a few months back, it felt quite heavy, also with longer usage times I think it might make people feel dizzy. Having screens right up against your eyes probably isn't the best thing either.

I understand why people like them, but I think the technology needs to improve before I buy something similar.

I'd rather have trackIR ;)

Me too. The Rift just seems a bit clunky to me, and you can't see anything but the game, TrackIR gives a similar experience, without being an inconvenience, e.g. Your face isn't covered by an entire goggles thingy (not sure what to call it).

You can´t compare the Oculus with TrackIR. I tried both (unfortunately I´m not owning any of those by myself) and the Oculus is way better in terms of getting the feeling of sitting in a real car. TrackIR just lacks of 360 degree motion. You can set it up, but 10 degrees of actual head moving will do a 120 degree turn in CCD, so that rather gives you a proper headache instead of a nice view around.

Oculus is quite heavy, but you will hate pressing the buttons for turning the head to the right / left once trying the Oculus (I did a couple of hours with the Euro Truck Simulator). TrackIR is quite nice to get rid of the buttons... My guess: you won`t prefer the TrackIR once you tried the Oculus ;)

Oculus support would be so nice, as I rate CCD much higher than most other open world driving simulations. The day Kivlov is doing this I promise I`m going to convince my friends to buy CCD ;) (no joke actually, I would also buy another copy of CCD just to convince Kivlov to get this done).

I really hope to see Occulus Rift support. It's a very easy thing to support, so I can't see why the devs wouldn't do it. It requires a second camera, and splitting the render surface in half. They already support head-tracking, so that should be easy to interface to.

Hi Nemolous (and Rifters)

I didn't have the time yet to try out whether I can get the stereo rendering working with Tridef, but headtracking can be solved with Opentrack.
www.dropbox.com/sh/544fbhsokdpy3n7/AAAKwl6BluqwT9Xn2slyp0dCa
or
github.com/opentrack/opentrack
and then go to Windows binary builds.
You can extract the files with 7zip, and then use the Rift as source, and freetrack to emulate TrackIR. Don't forget to setup the curves!
I'll try this setup next week and get back here if I get the time.

Okay Guys, I did it,it works with Oculus and headtracking!

I also posted a video of it. It is not perfect, but it is the best so far, if there is no official support otherwise.

I used Tridef 3D 5.9 with TriDef-3D-Ignition-3.7.6b2-Installer.exe (for the Oculus support). It will also work with other versions, but you might get more flickering. For headtracking I used Opentrack 2.2a2 (see the post above where to get it).
Only works in the Direct-X 9 version of the game, Tridef won't support it otherwise. I've tried it Vorpx too, which I prefed to Tridef, but it didn't worked at all.
Since the Oculus requires a high field of view, I've manually changed the camera FOV settings in the config files (data\gamedata\cars\cameras_common.xml). Just change every Fov 50 value to approximately 100. Thanks for the developers to make tweaking so easy!
The issues I have:
1. You can look side-to-side very well, but up-and-down is restricted as you can also see in the video. Maybe I can find another config file where I can overwrite these limits.
2. General flickering and artifacts: that is because of Tridef. Tridef is not bad, but I prefer Vorpx. If you set 3D separation to minimum (0), the rearview mirrors will be more-or less in place, but there are still some artifacts out there.
3. Menus are hard to use, and you cannot really see onscreen menus and instructions.
That is only because the game is never been intended for the Rift, and many of the things are simply outside of the normal Rift field of view.

As for conclusion, it would be so much easier if the developers would code the Oculus support. I am sure it doesn't take much, and it would be a good marketing point too (Driver's training with the Oculus Rift - woo, sounds great ;) ).

One more thing for those who are bashing here about the Oculus: you might not like Oculus (which is fine with me, it's your choice), but don't ruin the fun for others. Just because I don't play multiplayer, I am not gonna email Rockstar games, or write on their forums, not to put multiplayer support into the upcoming versions of GTA 5. Why not? Because I understand that there are people, who DO like multiplayer, and just because GTA 5 on pc WILL have multiplayer, my single player experience will not be worse. So if you come here, and writing stuff that 'hey, I don't like Oculus, because it's too heavy, and the technology is still very new, etc, etc...' you will only try to persuade the developers to do not support Oculus. But what do you win if City Car Driving won't have Oculus support? Nothing. Everything will stay the same for you. But for us, who do like Oculus, you are ruining the fun. Possible fun. Anyway. Please don't do that!

The vote just went up another one. I already have the game and the Logitech G27, but I can't even imagine how much happier I'll be when it will support the Oculus. Once it does I'll buy the DK2 right away only for this game. :D
Cheers

Hey devs,

If I recall right, I think I read somewhere that you pre-ordered the Oculus DK2 and should have had it at the begining of august. I wonder if the Oculus will ever be implemented to this simulator, and if the devs are working on it or not. It would be a real let-down if the Oculus never touches this game when it already is well established in various other simulators and vehicle games.

That's awesome! Now am considering ordering the Oculus Rift DK2 in preparation. On their website it says 6-8 weeks delivery time at the moment, so I wonder if the next update will come out by then or at least what month approximately the next patch will come out.
