I am surprised there is no information anywhere that describes this - have I missed it? Seems a key part of the whole learning!
Obviously rotation / steering is basic, and one or 2 buttons for common functions, but how can I tell:
- the functions in city car driving that can be mapped map to a button? Can any function map, or just some?
- might some wheels have buttons that Citycardriving cannot see?

I am not aware of how windows and the game software interfaces, so these questions may be answered by this but as a new user to this game and wheels,
- I am not sure what wheels I should not buy
- which work in some limited way, and
- what ones have the best features available.

I see some wheels come with a profiler program, how does this interact with Citycardriving settings?

Same goes for joysticks pretty much! Am I odd to need to ask these questions??

What about motion feedback and such, game wheels have some clever features, are any of these supported? Do any wheels actually have a motor in that can provide for example self-centering of the steering electrically?

Appreciate some clarification so I can figure what peripherals to buy...

Hi Greg, there are lots of steering wheels out there. From personal experience on the forum as well as in real life, I have found that Logitech and Thrustmaster steering wheels usually work best with City Car Driving. Wheels coming from companies like Genius have commonly had issues working with the game. Sometimes the cheapest wheel isn't your best option. Below are some URLs to a few wheels that work well with full functionality within the game. To answer your question about force/motion feedback, as long as your wheel offers it, you can turn it on in the in-game menu and it will be used.

Logitech Wheels

Logitech Driving Force GT - 125.58

Logitech G27 - 224.99

Logitech G25 - 399.99

Thrustmaster Wheels

Thrustmaster Ferrari VG Racing Wheel - 89.99

Thrustmaster T80 RS - 99.99

Thrustmaster T500RS - 577.99

Note: Two of the thrustmaster wheels will be very hard to use, the T500RS is the best wheel on the list, but also the most expensive. The G25 is a downgrade of the G27.

Thanks David, great info!

What did you mean by 'thrustmaster ... hard to use' - do you mean hard to set up, or hard to drive with for some reason? Not sure what the issue was. Was thinking on the $90 thrustmaster at this stage.

Get the Logitech Driving Force GT, it's a bit more expensive but it's almost perfect (apart from the noise and lack of clutch/gearstick). However I got around that issue by building my own clutch pedal out of an old joystick and a gearstick from a real car with some microswitches and an arduino (running unojoy) works great!

Well, just bought the Driving force GT wheel, and the Logitech joystick.

Figured most of the settings now, but I did come across the wheel offset to one side in the game. Took quite a lot of tries to prove it is the creating of a new driving profile in the City Car game that brought it right, reassigned all the buttons again.

The 900 degree but reduceable to whatever is great to control the steering sensitivity, I crash much less with a wider angle than 180 for example, which has the center too sensitive :}

I have proved that its fine to have both a joystick and wheel attached. When assigning them in the controls screen, they all show as a J for joystick, but the buttons are different numbers assigned so its all ok. I could do some buttons for indicators and gears etc on each of wheel and joystick, and throttle brake on the joystick and steering on the wheel of course.

I am not using the pedals to prove this setup can be done for just 2 handed driving!

I'm very glad I could help. I have a Driving Force GT and I love it.
