Thinking about getting CCD...but I have questions! 29 May 2015 12:34 #45672

Hey guys,

I'm looking at practicing my driving. I don't have access to a car, so I figure the best way to practice is to buy a racing wheel and play some driving simulation games. That would at least get me use to the movements of a driver and what not.

So, I did some research and came across City Car Driving. It looks like a genuine and quality driving simulator.

Just had a few questions about the game:

1) Is the game still being updated?

2) What kind of racing wheels are compatible with City Car Driving?

3) In the Download/Buy pages, I see an option to either Download or Buy the game. What's the difference between the non-purchased downloaded version and the purchased version?

4) Will City Car Driving make me a better real-life driver? How much can I learn about driving from playing CCD?

5) Does CCD allow you to practice parking?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Matt

1) Yes

2) Most if not all (others can elaborate on this)

3) There is no difference because there are no 2 versions of the game. I think the logic behind that whole buy/download thing is silly. Once you download the game. You will need to activate it by buying it. Which is the only reason why the "buy" link is there ...

4) It's international (or russian) driving rules. Very strict but if you don't live in Russia then ???? probably not the best idea to base real life skills on a game now is it ?

5) It has various driving lessons (which I skipped) but I don't think parking is one of them (The others can elaborate on this).

Hope that helps

I'm from Canada. Are the driving rules in CCD applicable to Canadian drivers?

I highly doubt that dude.

For example, in my country. You can turn left whenever you want if you are clear of all traffic.

If I do it in the game. It's an illegal turn, so I really don't think so. There are many things to take into consideration.

Maybe if you want to base this on learning how to drive, maintain car speed. Know when and how to stop.

Etc.. basic car functions YES

but not the rules of the road. I'm pretty sure that'll clash with what the Canadian DMV has in mind for you.

What country are you from?

Can anybody from Canada comment on this?

Where do you live where you can make a left turn on a traffic light  ?

You are thinking about your traditional 4 way intersection. We don't have that type of rigid mentality.

The intersections are built to support such a logic.

If we have 4 streets on a lane .. 3 going forward and the 4th turning left. The 4th lane is allowed to operate where the 3 others aren't because of conflicting traffic.

Same thing applies to T-junctions.

Where the first and second group of cars are facing a red light. But the 3rd group have a green and can turn either side of the road. However the first group will always be allowed to turn into the left side of the intersection irrespective of the situation. AS LONG AS THERE IS NO CONFLICTING TRAFFIC.

There are intersections I face when I go to work everyday that I can innocently say I have NEVER stopped at because I am always allowed to turn left.

It's also supported by more complicated intersections such as those that connect a Freeway to a business district or etc.

You can think of it as a counter traffic congestion mechanism.

Hi Matt,

1. Yes
2. All Logitec wheels are compatible (G25/27, Driving Force GT). Basically almost all wheels which are compatible with Windows. Even an Xbox controller works.
3. The download is after you purchase the game, you receive a serial key. Once you download it, you will need to insert the serial key to activate and play the game.
4. Yes, CCD will make you a better driver (especially if you use a wheel with 900 degrees steering). I would personally go as far as CCD is actually harder than driving in real life (many big uncontrolled intersections, controlled intersections let traffic on both sides pass, etc...).
5. Yes, there is a mission which allows you to practice parking. In all missions, you have to park to complete and in free driving, you can park in the various parking in CCD.

Off-topic note: There is a mod which allows you to change road signs to North American road signs by David02.
The traffic lights operate the Russian way (orange - red > green > flash green > orange > red), however you can also change that.

Hope this helped,

Spoutnik

Hello Matt,
1. Yes it is. The latest stable update was released just 2 months ago.
2. Any racing wheel will work, but I would recommend a Logitech G27, G25, or Driving Force GT. Or a Thrustmaster wheel
3. It's not a free game. You have to buy a serial number first before downloading the setup file. After which, you have to get an activation code using your serial (read more on the FAQ)
4. From experience, I can say yes, it does. It helped me practice driving. You can learn how to react in traffic situations, you can learn a bit of defensive driving, how to maneuver in tight spaces, parallel parking, and many more.
5. Yes it does.
