TOPIC: Slight confusion

Slight confusion 10 Mar 2011 16:21 #530

Hi,

I would like to know which version am I buying? v1.0 or is it v1.2? Will there be free updates if I buy v1.0?

You're bying v1.0. Version 1.2 is in development yet. This information is on the website.

Version 1.2 - is a standalone add-on. Update will NOT be free, but there will be an awesome discount for users, who already bought version 1.0 (~70%).

wow, no free updates??? This is like buying a fully fledged 3D game like Dirt 2 or Test Drive when your sim is obviously lacking in many areas.

I am making my own key thanks. Armadillo is not so strong, I'd recommend Themida or PC Guard for Win 32.

peace out.

You will not get much of a fan base if you charge extra for updates or newer versions. I paid $20 for a driving sim that comes with only 4 cars, I was expecting some FREE updates in the future. I'm not going to fork out more money, $20 is already a lot. If it were a BIG game like from from Rockstar Games, like Grand Theft Auto, then I would pay extra for download content, like The Ballad of Gay Tony. But this is not a big game and it does not have a large fanbase, so what justifies paying for updates?

If you have free updates, your fanbase will grow. The current release is a good base for everyone to buy and plenty will buy it. Just make the updates free on a good selling base. Reconsider?

It's not correct to compare our simulator to such BIG games like GTA or others. BIG games cost considerably more expensive than 20$.

I think we have here some sort of misunderstanding... This is NOT basic update - it is a large standalone ADD-ON. You'll get many awesome changes there:
  • * 2 new locations: southern district (including courtyard) and mountainous area;
  • * 2 new cars, which you can see on screenshots;
  • * 11 training exercises with different difficulty level;
  • * trams;
  • * detailed city map;
  • * improved car dynamics and steerability;
  • * improved violations detection algorithm;
  • * random generation of license plate numbers;
  • * version number in main menu;
  • * detailed user's manual.

And users, who already bought version 1.0 will get it for only 5$. I think it's quite a fair additional payment for addon with such list of new feautures.

I myself don't mind paid add-ons myself, it's your software after all...
But in my opinion things like:
* improved car dynamics and steerability;
# * improved violations detection algorithm;
And other improvements to already existing features, should be free as an update, like fixing bugs etc.

Yes, we have several small fixes here, but this add-on contains a big serious stuff and features (which marked with bold font) and this is the point!

I ask to all users to understand our motive right. We don't refuse free updates at all!

For example, we've already released russian version of this add-on (it was paid too). And we've also released 3 free updates to it during the last month with big fixes and other small changes! And all these cnanges will be included in City Car Driving v1.2 add-on! Also we will release a 4th free patch for russian version soon with serious optimization fixes. And this patch will be also available for free to the City Car Driving 1.2 customers.

Hmm...so this 1.2. version will be a 'stand-alone' 'add-on'? Don't u think these two terms are contradictory? If it's a stand-alone product it doesn't need any other previous version to run. It's either an add-on, or a stand alone game.
So basically, current CCD players will be practically charged $25 in total for full 1.2. version while the new players who didn't play 1.0 version will be charged $5 less? Or I'm missing something? Maybe v1.0+v1.2 are not equal as a single v1.2? At least that would make some sense...:side:

You've exactly missed the point. :)

Standalone means that original game is not required to play such add-on. So, you're partially right - it's standalone product, but we can't to name it this way, because it's almost the same product plus it has some large and significant new features.

Standalone add-on is basic term in computer games industry.

For example: www.pcgamersworld.com/2011/02/painkiller-standalone-add-on-redemption-for-february-25th/
JoWooD Entertainment has set the release date of the official Painkiller Standalone Add-On „Redemption“ for February 25th 2011.

On-topic:

CCD 1.2 = CCD 1.0 + new features that I've already listed.

Cost of the CCD 1.2 for new users, who didn't buy the CCD 1.0 will 25$.
Cost of the CCD 1.2 for users, who've already bought the CCD 1.0 will 5$.
CCD 1.0 is not required to play CCD 1.2.

I hope, I've explained it more clearly this time. :)

I'm looking forward!:woohoo:
$5.00 (in my case with the discount) probably doesn't even get close to the amount of work and hours that is put into this project.
