I've tried the Russian 3D Instructor demo about a year ago, and saw that it's a promising simulation project, basically the best publicly available at the time. Back then I didn't have a steering wheel, so I didn't really bother. I got one since, so when I checked back a few months ago, I was happy to see that a much improved version is coming out, i.e. City Car Driving 1.2.
Finally it has arrived, and I bought it yesterday. The purchasing process was a bit weird. I got an email that the sales team couldn't verify my phone number and asked me to provide another one. Yeah, it was a fake one, because I don't like to give out such kind of personal information to unknown parties in other countries. Anyway, I gave them my number and they called me from Russia to verify my purchase!
I guess the post-Soviet system still has a long way to go to get rid of paranoid bureaucracy
Anyway, installed the game without a hitch and was glad to see that it instantly recognized my TrackIR 4 and my Logitech Momo. The simulation is great, the quests are a good way to maintain interest, graphics are cool (I only found a minor glitch with the shadows), and I love the realistic touch of the rule ignoring BMW SUVs
All in all it's a great piece of simulation, definitely worth the price for those who'd love to practice their driving skills.
I only have one major problem and it could easily be my bad settings only. There's an extreme amount of motor break present. If I take my foot off the gas pedal, the car (I've only tried the old Lada) will break from 40 to 0 in about a second! My Momo doesn't have a clutch pedal, so I'm using automatic clutch. Is there a way to somehow fix this problem? It's really annoying.
Also it would be great if there would be a deadzone setting for the wheel in game, as my Logitech software is really badly written in that regard. Finally one more minor gripe, the AI cars change lanes in an unrealistically tight arc, but I guess we can live with that for now
