The developer of OpenIV has discontinued the popular GTA modding tool after receiving a "cease-and-desist" letter from Take Two.

It sucks. But, it was legal for Take-Two to have the program shut down. The way their TOS (Terms of Service) and EULA is drafted, it makes what they're doing, practically illegal.

It is sad. However, I spared my copy and I can still mod the game.

I just wonder now, how we will install mods in the future.

because I didn't really know what OpenIV is/was [because I don't play GTA 5 on the PC] but I know what it is now. later this day I was watching a lifestream of a YouTuber that plays LSPDFR with his own made mods, and this subject came also in his chatbox and he answerded the questions in his lifestream, one of them was are we able to install mods? he said: yes ofcourse OpenIV was shutdown but you can still install the mods.

also there is a petetion going on for re-opening OpenIV and in 7 hours already 30k signed for it so go to the forum and sign it!

As I say with most petitions, this one makes no exception the tile that petitions do absolutely nothing. If TakeTwo cared in any form about what the users wanted, they wouldn't have taken down OpenIV in the first place. Also, you cannot just withdraw a legal document and just say "lol nvm", that's not how it works. That petition is useless as well because it is addressed to Rockstar. TakeTwo issued the cease and desist notice, and they also own Rockstar. Rockstar supports modding, but they have absolutely no say in what happens.

Also, I think this was bound to happen. As proven by actions patching every ScriptHook, exploit and all offline and online, there had to be an end, as there is to everything. While I may not agree with the actions taken by TakeTwo, they were justified and rather smart. If you want to end modding online, as they claimed they did, the best way is not to stop the modders, but the one object at the root of all modding tools, assistants and clients.

I actually learned about this today. I found videos by Jeff Favignano and FirstThirtyMinutes on YouTube that did videos on LSPDFR in GTA V. Because it looked very interesting, I decided I'd buy the game and put in LSPDFR. Then, on Jeff Favignano's Twitter, he said that it would be the end of LSPDFR with the closure. I researched it, and, disappointingly, discovered that LSPDFR is gone

LSPDFR is still there, however you cant have custom vehicles. This would make the game boring, and that would be what makes people say it is dead.
