So I just switched to the sand mode and water wading mode, and magically I was freed. I came back to Jericho. Not to help him, but to send sand flying into his face.

Suddenly a bear appeared and pushed everything out of the quicksand. He then ate the quicksand so nothing could get stuck in it again. (I'm a genius)
